In Customily, a Design is the heart of a personalized product. It’s the artwork your shoppers will personalize — made up of the visual elements and personalization features that bring a product to life.

You can think of it as the customizable layout that sits on top of your product. It includes any text, images, cliparts, or interactive elements that your shoppers can modify — like names, dates, photos, or custom maps. When a shopper personalizes a product, they’re interacting with the design.

Each design includes:

• All the artwork elements – Everything visible on the design, whether personalizable or not. This can include:

  → Personalizable elements like editable text, uploaded photos, cliparts, or dynamic maps.

  → Static elements like decorative text, frames, or background images.

• An automatically generated option set – This is the personalization form shoppers see on your storefront. It contains the inputs they’ll use to personalize the product, such as: 
  
  → Text fields
  → Swatches
  → Dropdowns
  → Image upload buttons, and more.
  
  The option set is linked directly to each personalizable element in the design, so any changes a shopper makes are reflected instantly in the live preview.

Where are Designs used?

Designs can be applied to any kind of product base, whether it's a Print-on-Demand (POD) item or one of your own. The same design can be used across multiple products, and it will automatically adjust to fit the product’s print area — so you can apply a design to a mug, a t-shirt, or a blanket without having to recreate it.

Types of Designs

There are three ways to work with designs in Customily:

• Customily Designs
  These are ready-made designs created by our team. They’re 100% royalty-free and ready to sell. Just choose one and apply it to a product — no design skills required.
  Great for getting started fast or finding seasonal inspiration.

  You can create a design from scratch using Customily’s Design Studio. Add your own artwork, set up personalization elements, and customize every detail. This gives you full creative control and lets you build a completely unique personalization experience.

• Start from a Customily Design and modify it
  You can also take any Customily Design and customize it to make it your own. This will open the design in the Design Studio so you can change the artwork, add or remove elements, or rearrange the layout.
