Can’t add product to cart on Shopify (Variant doesn’t exist)
Last updated: April 27, 2026
What you’ll see
When trying to add a product created with Customily to the cart, you get an error like:
“This variant doesn’t exist”
“Variant is unavailable”
Or the Add to Cart button doesn’t work.
Why this happens
This usually means Shopify can’t find a valid, available variant for the product.
How to fix it
1. Make sure the product is active
Go to your product in Shopify
Check that it is not set to Draft
👉 Many themes don’t allow adding draft products to the cart.
2. Check the product is available on your storefront
In the product settings on Shopify, look for Sales channels and apps
Make sure your Online Store channel is selected
3. Check inventory settings
Open your product variants
If Track quantity is enabled:
Make sure the variant has stock available
If you don’t need inventory tracking:
Disable Track quantity
4. Check shipping setup
If the product still appears as sold out or unavailable, it may not have valid shipping rates.
When publishing from Customily, the product is assigned to the Customily location
This location must have a shipping profile with valid rates
👉 If the Customily location is not included in a shipping profile, Shopify may treat the product as unavailable.
How to check:
Go to Settings → Shipping and delivery in Shopify
Open your shipping profiles
Make sure the Customily location is included and has rates assigned
