Once you’ve configured the print area of your product base, the next step is to upload product images that will be used to build the mockup. These images are what shoppers will see when browsing your store — so it’s important they clearly show the product and match the configuration of your print area.

What Kind of Images Should You Use?

You should upload blank images of your product — meaning they don’t contain any designs or decorations yet. These images will be used as the background for your product mockups.

  • For simple products (e.g., one color or style), you only need one image.

  • If your product comes in multiple colors, materials, or finishes, you can upload one image per variant.

Important

If using multiple images, all images should be the same (or very similar) in size and layout. The print area is placed once and reused across all images, so consistency is key.

How Image Names Affect Variants

When you upload multiple product images, Customily uses the filenames to generate variant options automatically. For example, if your images are named:

Baby Pink.png
Powder Blue.png
White.png

Customily will create a variant named Color with options: Baby Pink, Powder Blue, and White.

Don’t worry if your image names aren’t perfect — you can always edit the variant name and option values before saving your product base.

Image Upload Order

Customily creates variant options in the order you upload the images. If you upload multiple images at once, they will usually be added alphabetically. This order will be reflected in the final product.

How to Upload Images

  1. In the Mockup step of your product base, click Add Product Images.

  2. Select one or more blank images of your product.

  3. After uploading, you’ll see them appear in the mockup preview. Remember to adjust the print area to match your image.

That’s it! Once your images are uploaded, you can continue building your mockup and finalizing your product base.
