Add personalization to a product using a Template and Option Set
Last updated: October 9, 2026
If you’ve built your own Template, you can connect it directly to a product already listed in your store and assign the options shoppers will use to personalize it.
This guide shows you how to connect that setup from the product configuration. The Template powers the live preview and print-ready files, while the Option Set provides the personalization fields shown on your product page.
Note
This method is for your own products and doesn’t support POD fulfillment. To personalize a product with a POD provider, follow 📄 Add personalization to an existing product with a POD provideror 📄 Create a new personalized product with a POD providerinstead.
Before you start
Have your product listing already created in your store.
Create your Template, including the print file setup, personalized elements, and product preview. See 📄 Creating templates manuallyfor instructions.
1. Open your product in Customily
Go to Products and click the product you want to personalize.
This opens its configuration, where you can connect the Template and Option Set and manage how the product works with Customily.
2. Assign your Template
In the Template section, choose the Template you created for this product.
Make sure it contains the correct product preview, personalized elements, and print file setup.
3. Connect your Option Set
In the Option Sets section, create an Option Set automatically from your connected Template. We recommend this approach to generate the personalization options from the Template’s personalized elements.
If you already have an Option Set prepared for this Template, you can add it instead.
You can open the connected Option Set from this section to edit its options.
4. Configure your product variants
If your product has variants that affect the personalized design, expand Product Variants and assign the appropriate functions.
For example, you may need a color variant to change the product color in the preview.
For more information about the available configuration sections, see 📄 How to Add Functions to Product Variants.
5. Test personalization on your store
Click the eye icon at the top of the page to open the product on your storefront.
Try each personalization option.
Check that the correct elements update in the live preview.
Select any variants that affect the design and check that the preview updates correctly.
Make any necessary adjustments to your Template, Option Set, or variant functions.
