Adding colors to a Color Library

Last updated: May 8, 2026

Color Libraries store colors that shoppers can choose from when personalizing a product.

They can be used with:

  • Text elements (box, curved, and warped)

  • Vector elements in single-color mode

  • Image placeholders in single-color mode

  • Solid background elements

Uploading images

  1. Open the Color Library. If your library uses categories, open the category first before adding the colors. Colors added inside a category will belong to that category.

  2. Click Add color

  3. Use the color selector to choose the color you want to add.

If your library uses the RGBA color mode, you’ll be able to assign:

    • RGB values

    • Alpha value

    • HEX value

If your library uses the CMYKA color mode, you’ll be able to assign:

    • CMYK values

    • Alpha value

You can either use the color selector visually or type the values manually.

  4. Click Add

Once added, the colors will appear inside the library.

By default, Customily will automatically generate a name for the color, and the selected color itself will be used as the swatch thumbnail.

Both the color name and thumbnail can be changed later.

Names and thumbnails

By default:

  • Customily automatically generates a name for the color

  • The selected color itself is used as the swatch thumbnail

The color name and thumbnail are used by Customily when generating the shopper-facing personalization options.

You can rename a color by hovering over its name and clicking Rename.

In the Thumbnail Options column, you can choose how the shopper-facing swatch should be displayed.

By default, the color thumbnail is selected and uses the selected color itself.

You can:

  • Click the color thumbnail icon to change the swatch color without affecting the actual library color

  • Click the image thumbnail icon to upload a custom image instead

Tip

Using a custom image as the swatch thumbnail is especially useful when shoppers should see a textured or realistic material preview instead of a flat color swatch.

For example, if shoppers are selecting embroidery thread colors, you may want to display a thumbnail showing the actual thread texture instead of a solid color.

Managing colors

To manage a color, hover over it to reveal the action buttons on the right side.

From there, you can:

  • Click the pencil icon to edit the color. This will reopen the color selector so you can choose a new color.

  • Click the trash can icon to delete the color

  • Click the star icon to mark the color as selected by default

The selected color will be used by Customily when automatically generating the personalization options for shoppers.

To delete multiple colors at once:

  1. Use the checkbox on the left side of each color to select the colors you want to delete

  2. Click Delete

To select all colors on the current page, use the checkbox at the top of the list.

You can also reorder colors by:

  • Clicking and dragging them

  • Changing their # number

Changing the # number is especially useful when moving colors beyond the current page of results.
